Staycation at Microtel by Wyndham Batangas

It was funny and ridiculous, how i'd thought of planning a runaway-from-home scenario weeks ago. I was like grasping for some air and i thought of going out somewhere with my kids, while recuperating from a flu virus which caused me some emotional strains and anxiety the past days. Too much stressful situations lately made me gaunt physically and poignant resulting to some unstable kooky-ness! Yes, it happened, because i am human. So, undeterred where to head and stay for the night, while parked in a gas station, i remembered Microtel in Sto.Tomas which is just an hour drive away. I booked it online, using my smartphone that instant and was surprised to receive immediate confirmation!

Microtel Inn and Suites by Wyndham in Sto. Tomas, Batangas is a member of the worldwide hotel brand Microtel Group of Hotels in the Philippines. It is strategically located inside the First Philippine Industrial Park complex. It is my first time to book for Microtel hotel and so far, i had quite a good experience.

Upon arrival at the lobby, we were greeted and promptly assisted by their staff. Checking in was fast. I booked a queen room for the three (3) of us (me and my kids), but we were blessed to be upgraded to a Suite Room which was quite huge for the three of us.

The homey hotel lobby.

We got a small living area with a sofa, a kitchenette and small dining area. Our mini kitchen has a personal refrigerator that was working cool, a microwave oven, kitchen counter with sink, coffee/tea making facility, electric kettle and cabinets.

The room is equipped with electronic key card system. It was fully air-conditioned with a cable television, accessible free WI-FI connection, a mini closet, a work desk, radio clock, safety deposit box and a queen-sized bed with chiropractor-approved mattress.

The bed was comfy! Our bathroom was clean and spacious with a bath tub, and all the necessary toiletries that a guest needs. We got clean and fluffy towels and hot and cold shower.

Our room was on the 3rd floor and located at the farthest corner near the emergency exit and it's giving me some creepy feelings, though everything was fine. I just don't like the idea of cornered rooms which is too far from the elevators. I feel isolated.

We rested for a couple of minutes and then went out again and headed to the nearest food hub in Sto. Tomas. The Lifestyle Strip is the mecca of food establishments in the city. There are quite a number of coffee shops and fast food chains in the area which is just around 5 minutes drive from Microtel Batangas (minus the traffic).

After buying some stuffs and food to eat, the kids were so eager to check out their pool. So we headed on the pool side only to find out that the pool was dirty. There were floating weeds, dried leaves from the surrounding trees and my kids were upset. I asked the staff if they can clean the pool so the kids can swim after dinner. Unfortunately, their housekeeping is no longer available that time so they suggested to utilize the pool next morning, rest assured that it will be clean and swim-able by then.

Since my kids looked so frustrated, the staff on duty gave each of them some coloring books and crayons to pacify the latter and i really do appreciate their preparedness in dealing with situations like that or else, i will be the one who'll get stressed with their grumble.

This is my favorite part of the room.
The window area has a cushion with a pillow, perfect for some morning musings.
We stayed in the room the whole night after dinner, watching movies, while my son and daughter colored their books before hitting the sack. We then had a good night's sleep and woke up a little late the next morning. We had our buffet breakfast at the hotel's very own Millie's Restaurant.

There are limited food choices, and food taste was so average. They got breads and cereals which my daughter is very fond of eating and fried rice and eggs for my son. As long as those selection is present, they are more than okay. However, the refilling of the food was very slow. It took a while before i was able to get my food, because the food trays are empty. After breakfast, the kids jumped into the pool for an hour before heading back to our room to prepare for our check out.

On the pool earlier that morning, i was smelling something like gas or polluted air. I suspect it was from the nearby industrial companies surrounding the hotel, giving me the impression that it's not quite good for the kids. The location of their pool is also a major let down for me. It was situated on the left wing of the hotel just along the main road of the Industrial Park premises. It could get smokey due to the trucks and vehicles passing along the way. It is lacking privacy too because of the open gate on the side where some workers passes by. It's awkward for swimmers to see by-passers inside the hotel pool premises.

In my perspective, Microtel by Wyndham Batangas is for business and travel, ideally. While their rooms are spacious enough to accommodate families and breath in a quiet luxury, the location was more ideal for business and the like because of the surrounding big time companies that defiles its environment. Their pool is just plus points to incorporate business and leisure.

Microtel by Wyndham Batangas have function rooms perfect for meetings, events and workshops too.
Overall, we had a comfortable and somewhat, luxurious stay at Microtel by Wyndham Batangas. Thank you for the FREE Suite Room upgrade! If you're looking for an economy class  yet decent hotel to stay in Batangas area, this is recommendable. Published rates starts from Php 3,000 with free buffet breakfast. Location is accessible to food establishments and public transportation. It's a total value for money with commendable costumer service and fast and efficient booking confirmation. We were planning to stay at Microtel by Wyndham Mall of Asia next month, so i might compare these two branches, stay tuned for that!
