Organic Black Rice and its Nutritious Wonders

23:38

Have you heard about the "forbidden rice"? I've been wanting to try out the red rice and brown rice for my weight loss goals but i haven't got the interests yet of trying the black rice, not until i learned that black rice actually beats brown rice when it comes to health benefits. But because it was rare, i cannot find it in local supermarkets around our city and the towns nearby. When i attended a mom event months ago, i stumbled upon a booth where they sell black rice and so i bought a kilo of it to try. And now i've been wanting to have it in stock for some health consciousness reasons.

Let me give you an overview…
Black Rice, according to study, contains the richest powerful disease-fighting antioxidants, it also contains dietary fiber, anti-inflammatory properties, and has the ability to help stop the development of diabetes, cancer, heart disease and even weight gain.

Do you know that a 100 grams serving of Black Rice is equivalent to 8.5 protein, 3.5 iron, 4.9 fiber, and the highest amount of antioxidants of any rice variety? It is also a good source of iron, which can be hard to get for plant based eaters who rely on grains and legumes for protein.

The black color of the black rice bran contains the same anthocyanin antioxidants found in blueberries or blackberries, grapes, dark cherries, raspberries and acai berries. According to research, a spoonful of black rice bran contains more health promoting anthocyanin antioxidants than a spoonful of blueberries, but with less sugar and more fiber and vitamin E antioxidants. Anthocyanin antioxidants are associated with health benefits, such as memory improvement and decreased risk of heart disease and cancer.

Why is it forbidden?
During the years when China was ruled by an emperor, black rice was dubbed as the "Forbidden Rice". It was cultivated in very small amounts because it was only for the emperor's consumption. Although no such ban is being practiced nowadays, black rice is still rarely produced, especially when compared to brown and white rice.

The Bios Dynamis’ Certified Organic Black Rice

Rice as the staple food for us, Filipinos, is something that is quite hard to resist during mealtime. I myself, who used to go on a diet (if I feel like I need it) would (sometimes) skip the rice during meals and switch to other alternatives or some sort of reduced eating to fulfill my weight loss goals. But then again, I would always crave for rice!

I don’t desire to be supermodel slim nor acquire that super sexy and toned body that everyone wish. All I care about is to start living and eating healthy, for myself and for my family. And so, I started my work out again to pursue my healthy lifestyle and fitness journey which includes a low calorie diet and switching off to black rice twice or thrice a week!

Bios Dynamis’ Certified Organic Black Rice is a good choice and so far it is the brand that is usually available in selected markets nowadays.

"Bios Dynamis" is a brand developed by Don Bosco Foundation, which is for Sustainable Development and over Two Decades of Working for People, Planet and Sustainability. They are situated in North Cotabato - Mindanao’s food basket. They are practicing Biodynamic Farming, which is a method of organic farming that emphasizes the holistic development and interrelationships of the soil, plants and animals as a self-sustaining system.

Bios Dynamis as of today is known as the country’s first and largest producer and exporter of certified organic, black, red and brown rice.

Talking about diet and healthy lifestyle, in this age where delectable foods and appetizing restaurants are popping out one by one, maintaining that consciousness when it comes to healthy food consumption is very challenging for some (I’m guilty here). But may we all be reminded that by the food we eat or drink, we are either feeding a disease or fighting it. The food that we eat can either be the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison. Therefore, we must take care of our body, it's the only place we have to live in.

Love yourself, enough to live a healthy lifestyle!
