Hotelcation: Weekend at Astoria Plaza Ortigas

03:58

Here's another series of staycation we had on a weekend in Manila! If you'll notice, me and my family love hotel-cations once in a while. Staying in a hotel for a night or two gives me a total breath of comfort and relaxation away from all the bustles in life. But apart from that, i need to confess that i really have this obsession with hotels, and one bucket list i have is my 100 hotels to visit before i die! Now, how was that?

Anyway, for this series i'll be sharing our Astoria Plaza staycation. This time, we had it with my Dad and my cousin. It so happened that we needed to attend the wedding of my bestfriend and hubby is not on vacation so we went with my Dad instead! I've posted my reviews on Tripadvisor, but for a more detailed post i'm sharing it here.

Astoria Plaza sits conveniently at the busy commercial district of Ortigas Center. Its a great choice for travelers, and business people. No wonder why i find their lobby too busy most of the time. During our visit, the place was full, we arrived just on time for their standard check-in policy and i presumed that our room is already available. I booked the room a week before we arrive and they have assured me that there is an available room for us with reference to my choice of a family suite.

When i was checking in, the front desk told me that we need to wait for a moment, which turned out to be a 30 minutes of waiting before we were escorted to our room. Only to find out that the room i booked online, was not available so they gave us another suite room instead. What i'm really worried about was the wedding that we need to catch at 3 pm! We still need to change dress and put on our make up. I was the maid of honor then, plus my two kids will be walking down the aisle too as a flower girl and bible bearer. And this was the worst check-in experience i ever had for a hotel so far!

I booked for a family room with one bedroom, but they accommodated us in a suite room with two bedrooms because the latter wasn't available. The switch must be some sort of consolation for the inconvenience that we have suffered earlier because when we stepped inside the room, the calming colors of green and the spacious family area gave me a sudden feeling of relief.

In fairness to the poor service that we experienced from the hotel, their space was really comfy and family friendly. Our suite was modern, spacious, clean and convenient especially for a family with kids.

However, some of their amenities are oldish, some were already refurbished and some needs repair and renovation. Our room has a family area with cable television, a dining area and a kitchen where we can cook.

The bedroom has two double beds overlooking the pool. The view of the pool in the morning was nice having a private sanctuary in the middle of the city surrounded by uprising buildings and condominiums. The bathroom inside our room was also good with a bath tub that my kids enjoyed so much too.

Astoria's facilities include a gym, a lap pool, Fifth Season spa and massage center, AGL Valet Shop and Laundry Service. Complimentary round trip shuttle service to the Ortigas Business District is also available upon request.

All i really want is to rest after the wedding and for the kids to enjoy their stay by doing their favorite thing! Soaking and swimming at the pool! I love that they have a kiddie pool, while their adult pool has just the average space. The staffs by the pool are attentive to their guests especially to the kids.

We really enjoyed the pool- night swimming, and the following morning after breakfast, the kids went out again for a swim.

We had our buffet breakfast at Cafe Astoria of the hotel. I didn't take much photos of the food but we all had a full breakfast with choices of breads, soup, fried rice, fresh fruits, juices, coffee and other Asian cuisines.

Overall, the hotel spells convenience and comfort. Their rates are quite affordable too, considering their spacious rooms with household amenities. What i really don't like was the small, crowded lobby, busy staffs and front desk officers and oldish amenities but everything is tolerable. T'was a short stay, but my kids enjoyed their weekend vacation, and that's the real value of money for me. Their happiness was my pleasure. It's a 6:10 rating though! This residential suite is highly recommendable for groups and big families!
