Target Shooting at Jethro International

23:18

Target Shooting is one of the sports that I really wanted to try if given  the luxury of time and money! My first encounter with a real gun, was during my younger years when my Dad was still in the service of Philippine National Police as a Senior Police Officer. He introduced me to firearms since I was the eldest and he doesn't have a son who'll probably continue his legacy. Anyway, firearms has been a "common" thing at home since my father was a police.

During my high school days when I was a cadet officer, I was chosen from the brigade to compete for the handling- assemble and disassemble activity for firearms which I'm proud to have a remarkable record of 38seconds and I owe it to my Dad for being my trainer that time.

Focus and Determination
Now, once again I got the chance to do formal shooting at Jethro International. Again, being an online buddy, I chanced upon a discounted promo for a target shooting session in an indoor firing range with a lot of reasonable freebies! I felt over excited that time that I grabbed it right away without second thoughts! Good thing the merchant has a branch in Alabang, it's quite nearer than the one in QC.

About Jethro International:

This establishment is headed by Jethro Dionisio, the fastest steel shooter alive today. He has impressive championship record that includes three Steel Challenge (World Speed Shooting Championship) crowns (1990, 1992, 1993) and three World Shoot-off Championships (1993, 1994, 1995). His six world titles stand as the most dazzling string of world shooting championships in the 1990s.

As a newbie I used the 9mm caliver as per advised by the trainer. I never thought that target shooting as a hobby or as a sport can be so much fun! No wonder why I see a lot of people and some of my friends  are getting hooked on this sport. I really enjoyed and I want more!

Not only that it was fun but this sport has armed me with an enormous amount of focus, discipline and responsibility. And I hope I can continue learning more!

The experience at Jethro was a lot more enjoyable because of my Dad! It turned out to be a father-daughter bonding. After his retirement years back, he's armed once again but this time it's a fun shoot with me.

Jethro International is located at the third level of Festival Supermall, Filinvest, Alabang. They also had other branches around Metro Manila but I would prefer Alabang because its the closest to Batangas. It is a gun store that sells a wide variety of firearms, parts and ammunition too. I would like to thank my trainer for being so supportive and gentle when handling me the firearm.

Apart from the experience, I would like to impart some key principles that I've learned with regards to the handling of firearms.

Four Rules of Gun Safety

Rule #1: Consider every gun as loaded.

"I thought the gun was empty". This is usually the reason why accidents happen. If you always assume that a gun is loaded, you avoid accidents. Remember, every gun has the potential for danger.

Rule #2: Never let the muzzle of a gun point at anything you do not intend to shoot.

If a gun is fired accidentally, the chances of harm are avoided if it is pointed in a safe direction. The muzzle of the gun is the hole where the bullets exit. Never point this at people, at surfaces which can be penetrated, and surfaces where there maybe people behind.

Rule #3: Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.

A gun will not fire unless the trigger is deliberately pulled. DO NOT TOUCH the trigger until you have set your gun sights on a target and you are ready to fire!

Rule #4: Be sure of your target and what is around it.

When you have made the decision to shoot, make sure you know where the bullet will end up. If you miss, the bullet can hit an innocent bystander or go through a wall and hit someone behind.

And here's my "Isang Bala ka lang" pose!
